If you use it slowly the slip resistance will stay in place. But once you get the hang of it and start to speed up you will need a mat underneath it to keep in place. There is no noise, nice and quiet, quieter than the sound of riding a bike. Easy to move, less than 3lbs. Purchased for use after a knee surgery, helped strengthen the muscles, relieve tension, increase circulation, and best of all safe to use, the foot pedal has a strap for your feet to stay in place.
